Early Learning Partnerships Support South Dakota Teachers, Families, and Childcare Providers with Free Activity Kits

Families and childcare providers of pre-K children across South Dakota are eligible to receive free “Sesame Street in Communities” early learning kits. The kits help early learners and families with what matters most in young lives: health and wellness, social-emotional skills, and school readiness. All are critical to children’s healthy development, and together they build the foundation for a happy, healthy life. Sign up to receive the kits through the Early Learning Initiative at SDPB.org/ELI. The deadline to apply is March 7, 2021. Sesame Street in Communities early learning kits will be mailed shortly after.

South Dakota Public Broadcasting (SDPB) is working with the South Dakota Statewide Family Engagement Center, School Board Association of South Dakota, South Dakota Association for the Education of Young Children, Early Learner South Dakota, and others to provide young children high quality learning experiences and prepare them for kindergarten. A total of 800 recipients in South Dakota will receive three kits and additional resources provided by local organizations, including kindergarten readiness materials from the SD Statewide Family Engagement Center.

SDPB was one of only 20 stations across the nation to receive a Sesame Street in Communities grant to provide early learning kits to teachers, families, and childcare providers. The grant also provides free virtual training opportunities to help recipients make the best use of the kits. The goal of SDPB’s Early Learning Initiative is to fill the gap in South Dakota of no formal, funded, and standards-based preschool program, by helping all children gain access to learning materials for kindergarten preparation.
